Foundation history:

The association “Histoire de pierres” was founded in the wish to see the ancient structures of the valley of the Corbières and its surroundings returned to their former glory throught the reconstruction of its ancient sites of dry stone.

These sites their walls and terraces had been allowed to fall into a deplorable condition which have over the past 10 year been largely returned to their former glory by dedicated association participants.  Their sole object was to returning to the Languedoc Roussillon the historical jewels of its ancient past. 

The work by this association also on a part time basis has largely been backed by other association outside the Corbières area involved in restoration works of other historical sites, namely the association of Claude Froidevaux.

To remedy the large geographical distance between sites we had chose to install our association in the Corbières, where we considered our task should begin. The name of our association is founded in the praise to this magnificent area so full of history and stones, which itself is like an ode to the glory of this country.  

The restoration work of walls, capitelles and other structures are carried out on the basis of voluntary work camps or educative days in which young and old interested in historical architecture history etc are invited to participate in reconstruction work itself.

The association is a newly created association. Its aim is to train others to do reconstruction work and by participation to hand down experience of such work to future co-workers.  

Little Geography:

Situated in the hearth of the Narbonnaise, in the territory between the maritime Corbières and High-Corbières, the Histoire de pierres Association welcomes you in its building all the year. We are installed in the beautiful village of Saint Jean de Barrou but we exercise our talents in Feuilla, Embres Et Castelmaure, Durban-Corbières, Fraïsse des Corbières.... The association’s actions are not limited in a geographic zone.

          And there is a lot of place to visit: Carcassonne, Narbonne, Perpignan, the castle of Salses, Lagrasse and Fontfroid’s abbeys, the channel of Midi, etc. And if you want to have a hasty dip there is the beach nearest ... because after the job it does a lot of good!!!
